Fashion for women, is more important as you get older, not less important.
Rule number one: There are no rules and dressing your age today isn’t what it was in your Mother’s day. For a style or single item of clothing to become off limits simply because you cross an invisible line is unreasonable. Let’s face it though, mini skirts are a thing of the past and Tina Turner may look great in one, but most of us girls are way past the point of wearing one.
By fifty, you have learned the art of buying less and purchasing better quality. Choose good quality separates that flatter your figure. Sleek and pulled together is the look. Avoid cheap, gimmicky jewelry and accessories. You can still follow trends, but learn to do it more subtly using them in shoes, scarves and purses. Accessories are a great way to follow a trend in a minimal way. A belt lifts an outfit without you having to dramatically to change your look. Most of us choose longer sleeves for covering our arms, and if your waist isn’t what it once was, then look for shapes that skim instead of cling.
Have fun with large statement jewelry or find your own fabulous style. Dress up with accessories, it’s amazing what a fun little purse can do for a simple outfit. One request, PLEASE do not give in to elastic waste bands.
