Always in a hurry, she usually didn’t move everything when she changed purses. There would be bits and pieces of “stuff” left in all of them. Sharon Barber Purses were featured in AY Magazine, December 2011, along with three other artistic members of the Arkansas Craft Guild and the 33rd Arkansas Craft Guild Christmas Showcase.

Amy Bowers reports, “Sharon Barber of Benton, Ark., became tired of the tedious task of switching purses to match outfits and occasions, so she invented and patented the perfect purse.  The colors and textures of fabrics on her box-shaped purse design can be easily switched out from casual to evening, from basic black to leopard.”

Puzzle Purse Features Interchangeable Parts

It was in 2004 that I first mentioned Arkansan Sharon Barber and her patented line of boxlike, transformable handbags featuring interchangeable wraps, straps and decorations.

The Benton resident is still going strong and now has a new offering for kids in the form of Debi the Puzzle Purse,$40-$46.

The purses are just the right size and shape for little girls, and a custom strap length is available for any adult fans.

Offered in 15 styles, Debi can be disassembled and paired with other accessories. “Take it apart, put it back together. It’s just like working a puzzle!” according to a news release.

Each one-of-its-kind purse comes in a base with natural hardwood detail and the interchangeable features … including a decorative clip in some designs. Each purse also includes a built-in, impact resistant mirror and is named, numbered and signed by Barber. The purses are available at sharonbarber.com.

Debi, The Puzzle Purse is made for girls and is offered in several styles, including Sunshine Yellow, Green Froggy and Lady Bug.

“I love purses,” Sharon says, “but changing the contents from purse to purse was such a hassle… I wanted a quick-change solution that was simple and unlimited.”

After creating a design in 2001 that accomplished each of her goals for the purse, she took it for a test run and found success. “Not only did I find it pretty and practical, but others did as well.” Two people, in fact, stopped her that day to ask her about it,” Sharon said.

Obtaining the patent and developing an entire line of purses—each named after a woman in her circle of family and friends—soon followed. And, because of her desire to build confidence in young girls, she also launched Puzzle Purses, the colorful line of purses for kids.
